Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signed a new deal with the Gunners last summer to stay at the Emirates with a salary hovering around £ 300,000-a-week.
The player is currently the highest-paid player on the roster; however, he has failed to deliver a performance worthy of his mega-money contract.
In Arsenal’s recent loss to Everton, the Gabonese missed a clear chance to score. It is not the first time Aubameyang has missed clear and easy opportunities this season. In fact, the player has only managed to score four goals in 14 appearances for the club.
Auba’s current performance has unleashed a storm of criticism from former players, pundits, and experts.
For example, former Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor told talkSPORT: “I think Arsenal are definitely getting sold short.
“Auba is on £ 300k-a-week. If I’m an Arsenal fan, I want Salah numbers. I want Salah’s goals and assists tally, but they’re not getting that. ”
In a Sky Sports show, former English player and coach Gary Neville said that he notices tension between Arteta and Aubameyang and that he would not be surprised if the player left the Emirates soon.
The front line is the one that is giving Arsenal the most problems since Arteta constantly rotates between Aubameyang, Lacazzete, Nketiah, and Pepe; however, none of these players have achieved the expected results.
In fact, the Gunners’ goal production has fallen to wingers like Emile Smith Rowe, who has a 33% goal conversion percentage, higher than Auba’s 24%.
