Three-time world Championship Winner Mark Selby rounded off an emphatic 4-1 victory over Jack Lisowski at the Milton Keynes Arena on Thursday.
The world number three made a [147] break which signifies his landmark career breaks.
Despite the slow start to the game against Lisowski by accumulating two fouls, Selby bounced back, sending a clear message to his opponent as he won the second frame to rush to a 3-0 lead.
Jack [Liswoski] tried to fight back and got a break of 119, but it was rather too late as Selby cemented his win with a 117 break.
After the game, Selby revealed how thrilled he was to advance to the next round. He also praised his opponent for his fighting spirit as well.
“I’m happy to have made it this far and also made a record break in this tournament. “he said.
Asked if he could go on to win the tournament, he responded with a smile, “nothing is impossible with the right mindset.”
Selby will now face the winner in the game between Judd Trump and Mark Allen in the last eight.
A cash prize of £100,000 will be up for grabs for the winner. Selby also stands a chance to win £5000 for making the highest break so far in the tournament as long as no one beats his records.
All eyes will also be on the world rankings by the end of the tournament as the ranking table takes a shuffle which could see Trump occupy the number one spot after his 4-0 win over China’s Xu Si on Thursday afternoon while Mark Allen sent Gary Wilson packing in a 4-2 contest.
This year’s edition of the British Snooker could see us witness a tight contest with big names making it to the quarters, and it will be interesting to see who claims the ultimate prize and the top-ranked title.
