WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, has revealed that a fight with fellow heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk, could happen very soon – in 2023. According to the Gypsy King, Usyk, the WBA, IBF, and WBO champion, was at the top of his ‘shopping list,’ provided he (Fury) is able to defeat Derek Chisora when they meet in December.
Fury and Chisora would meet for the third time in their professional career on December 3rd, where Fury would try to defend his WBC title for the second time this year. The last two times they met, Fury went home the winner, and he is confident he can make the trilogy score 3-0. If that happens, he wound then move on to his next opponent, the Ukrainian Usyk. If he loses in December, Fury would have the chance to face Chisora in a rematch to try and reclaim the title.
Speaking with Queensberry Promotions’ Youtube channel, Fury said that Usyk was top of his list, but if he declines, then he would move to Joe Joyce, adding that he would have three fights next year. He said: “Usyk is top of the shopping list – provided I get through this one, and if not, a rematch with Chisora for the fourth time.
“If Usyk don’t want no smoke in February, let’s do Joyce at Wembley. Joe, get your skates on, get fit because if the middleweight don’t want no smoke, you’re in. I’m fighting three times next year, and you could be one of them.”
He also said Joyce was the third-ranked heavyweight fighter in the world, saving the number two spot for Deontay Wilder, adding, “I don’t think anybody in the world can take Deontay Wilder’s power, only myself.”
Fury expressed his disappointment at only having fought once this year, saying he has been training since the Boxing Day of last year and was hoping for more bouts. But next year, as he has told his promoter Frank Warren, he would be having three fights as he promised to have “no long stints out of the ring.”
