Legendary boxer, Mike Tyson earlier declared that he would be willing to fight an exhibition match for charity, with the proceeds to go to coronavirus relief funds.
He released a video earlier this month that showed him in full force, throwing punches. The 53-year old shocked a lot of people and also picked the interest of a few, including former rival Evander Holyfield.
Holyfield and Tyson met twice in the 90s and Holyfield won both matches, including the last one where Tyson was disqualified after biting off Holyfield’s ear. Now, Holyfield has said that he would like to face Tyson for the third time, in an exhibition match. But he was quick to add that he would not be the one to approach Tyson, because of their past encounters.
Word of the indirect proposal may have gotten to Tyson and he has expressed his interest in that fixture, as long as it would be for charity. Although not confirming if the fight would go ahead or not. Speaking with TMZ Sports, he said, “I don’t know if me and Evander will get in the ring. It would be awesome for charity.
“Can you imagine me and him going into the ring together? Arch enemies. You are doing it for the humanity of people and people less fortunate than ourselves. That is something that’s never been done by any entertainer or sports figure in the history of entertainment of this sport.”
For Tyson, meeting with Holyfield is not about settling any old scores or proving who the better man is after more than 20 years, but is more about fighting for a cause, for charity. He understands how big such a fight could get, how much could be raised from it, and how much impact the funds could make in the lives of people.
But Tyson would have to consider just more than Holyfield as other people have also declared interest in facing him. Tito Ortiz, UFC Hall of Famer has also said that he is ready to fight Tyson, whether it be a UFC type of fight or straight-up boxing.
However, Tyson has announced that he would be revealing the names of people he would take on this week, boasting that they are even bigger names than Holyfield.
