Unbeaten cruiserweight fighters, Richard Riakporhe and Deion Jumah would square off this Saturday at the Wembley Arena, England. But Riakporhe has warned that Jumah would be one of the many people to fall to his hands as he targets the cruiserweight title.
Riakporhe (13-0) is no stranger to titles, having held the British cruiserweight title from 2019 to 2020. He also won the vacant WBC Silver cruiserweight title in 2021. With 9 knockouts since turning pro in 2016, Riakporhe is one of the toughest cruiserweight boxers in the scene today, and he knows it.
Speaking on the upcoming fight, Riakporhe commented that his opponent is “just another opponent I need to deal with,” and “I don’t think he’s conditioned to absorb the punishment I’m going to dish out.” Those are tough words to come from a fighter. But they are not just coming from anybody. Riakporhe has been able to put in the work over the years and he has attained the bragging rights by sheer hard work.
But Jumah is no piece of cake himself. Still undefeated after 14 fights, since turning pro in 2013, Jumah has enjoyed a very interesting career. With 7 knockouts under his belt, Jumah is easily one of the people to fear in the cruiserweight division.Although Riakporhe has almost the same amount of wins as Jumah in less time, this does not take away from how much do a great boxer Jumah is and he is willing to prove that on Saturday as he seeks to extend his victories to 15 wins. Speaking at the press conference ahead of the fight, Jumah noted that “Richard was one of the fighters I’ve had in my mind for a number of years… the time is now.”
That the fight is even happening now is surprising. Both men were billed to face different boxers, until their opponents pulled out due to injury. And now, we would be getting one of the best all-British cruiserweight fights in a long while.
