Pereira defeats Rountree by TKO to set new UFC record

Alex Pereira successfully defended his UFC light heavyweight title against Khalil Rountree, securing a victory by TKO in the fourth round at UFC 307 over the weekend. The fight marked Pereira’s third successful title defence since he won the light heavyweight title last November.

The bout began with a charged atmosphere as both athletes exchanged powerful strikes. Pereira, known for his striking ability and knockout power, immediately established his range, utilizing his height and reach advantage. Rountree responded with aggressive combinations, aiming to close the distance and land significant blows.

As the first round progressed, Pereira’s precision became evident. He landed several clean shots that visibly affected Rountree. However, the second round took an unexpected turn when Rountree connected with a powerful left hook that sent Pereira to the canvas. The crowd erupted as Rountree seized the moment, attempting to capitalize on his opponent’s vulnerability.

Despite the knockdown, Pereira refused to go down that easily. He quickly regained his footing and adapted his strategy. Between rounds, Pereira’s corner emphasized the need to maintain distance and utilize his jab effectively. This advice proved pivotal as he returned to the octagon with renewed focus.

In the third round, Pereira began to dominate the exchanges once more. His footwork improved, allowing him to evade Rountree’s attacks while countering with devastating strikes of his own. The tide had turned, and it was clear that Pereira was regaining control of the fight.

As the fourth round commenced, Pereira’s confidence soared. He let out a series of powerful combinations that left Rountree reeling. A perfectly timed uppercut landed flush on Rountree’s chin, sending him crashing to the mat. The referee stepped in to halt the contest at 4:32 of Round 4, declaring Pereira the winner by TKO.

With this victory, Alex Pereira improved his professional record to 12 wins and 2 losses while successfully defending his title for the third time in just 175 days—a new UFC record for the shortest time between three successful title defenses. Rountree, now at 14 wins and 6 losses, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and respect for Pereira’s skills while promising to make an inevitable comeback.
