There’s no need introducing Manny Pacquiao to any boxing fan, thanks to his blockbuster clash against the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a match billed as the Fight of the Century. Some avid boxing fans even labeled it the Battle for Greatness.
It was a tough asking for Pacquiao to come out tops against an undefeated five-division world champion in Mayweather. Despite all the odds against him, the Filipino kept his head down and went straight into the ring to brawl with the invincible man.
Manny Pacquiao fans will be forgiven for thinking they would gain the bragging rights by snatching a win, considering the reputation of the opponent in question. The fight was concluded with a unanimous decision win for Mayweahter, with two judges scoring the match-up 116-112 and the other 118-110.
Although this match was tagged by many as the most anticipated sporting event in history, it ended up being criticized by fans and the media alike as a letdown upon its broadcast.
Now, it’s the turn for Jimuel Pacquiao, son of the legendary boxer, to experience his first taste of defeat in his career. He was handed this bitter defeat last Saturday in a split decision declaring Ken Danila of Imus, Cavite as the winner. According to reports, it was a three-round 140-lb friendly boxing match in Novaliches, Quezon City.
How bitter an experience it must be to get your first-ever loss in a mere friendly game. Jimuel will be kicking himself for accepting a match up against Ken Danila – one he must have been so skeptical about, considering the experience of his opponent.
The 18-year-old confirmed the loss through a phone interview with The Manila Times. During the conversation, he reiterated how much more experienced his opponent was.
Despite this setback, the eldest son of Manny Pacquiao is determined to continue to pursue his boxing career. With a resounding voice, “I will continue boxing,” Jimuel said.
On the other hand, Danila who got the better side of Jimuel on the night begged to disagree with the latter tagging him as the more experienced fighter. He also revealed that Jimuel’s father, Manny Pacquiao is his idol.
That said, Manny will be hoping his son doesn’t let his guard down despite this defeat, by pushing harder to try to make improvements on his game.
