One of the biggest fixtures for boxing fans to look out for before the end of the year is the match between super bantamweight champion, Emanuel Navarrete and Francisco Horta. Navarrete would be defending his title for the fourth time, and the match would take place at the Auditorio GNP Seguros, Puebla, Mexico.
Navarrete, who became the super bantamweight champion, after defeating Isaac Dogboe in December 2018, went on to defeat the same opponent in May this year, winning him in the 12th round. Since then, the Mexican has defended his title twice, in August and September, which is something of a rarity for titleholders, most of which only fight two matches in a year.
But that just shows how dedicated and fearless Navarrete is. It is with that same spirit that he enters his December 7th bout. Navarrete has fought a total of 30 matches since he went pro in 2012, winning 29 of them, 25 of which were by knockout, and only losing one. Horta, on the other hand, has not had a bad career, winning 20 of his boots, with 3 losses and one draw, and a total of 10 KOs.
The match would be Navarrete’s first match in his home country since June 2018, as he had fought the rest after that in the United States. The 24-year-old has enjoyed a very interesting year, defeating all his opponents and seeming ready to take on more. Horta has not lost a match since 2014, winning his last 10 matches.
However, if he plans on defeating Navarrete in December, he would have to put in more effort as his previous opponents were more of underdogs, and his wins were almost predicted.
The super bantamweight champion has expressed his joy at ending the year with a match in his home country, giving a hint on how hard he has been training just to retain the title he fought so hard to get in the first place.
