British professional boxer Joseph Joyce has been pitted against long-term rival Marco Huck to challenge for the vacant European heavyweight title. A clash against Huck is one the Brit will always savor, having maintained an unbeaten record against his German counterpart in their last 11 games.
Fans of the Brit will be smacking their lips already, at the prospect of making the 12th count. Surely, you can expect Huck to give his nemesis, in the form of Joyce, a run for his money this time around.
Losing 12 times consecutively will be a huge blow to his already faltering career. A former WBO cruiserweight champion, this blockbuster match will be by no means a stroll in the park for Joe Joyce. Huck will surely want to set the record straight this time around with a win.
In line with plans, purse bids will be ordered by October 10, if a deal cannot be reached between both boxers. After signing a mega professional deal with Top Rank, former European champion Agit Kabayel decided to vacate the belt. Now that belt needs a new owner.
Joyce has been having the time of his life this year, with his career bolstering forward, claiming the Commonwealth belt in just his fourth bout. Also, he miraculously emerged victorious against former world title challenger Bryant Jennings on points a few months ago in his last fight.
Huck, who just moved up the ladder to the heavyweight division, failed to regain his WBO belt in a disappointing stoppage-time loss to Oleksandr Usyk in the quarter-final stages of the World Boxing Super Series.
The embarrassing loss immediately prompted the 34-year-old into making a major career decision – taking a step forward to the heavyweights.
Usyk who got the better of Huck on the night of the fight is also set to join the top division next month after his October 12 scheduled bout against Tyrone Spong in Chicago.
The European heavyweight title is up for grabs, and the whole boxing community will witness long-term rivals Huck and Joyce go head-to-head once again. Whatever the outcome, it promises to be an exciting match.
