British professional boxer, Chris Eubank Jr. has been speaking with Sky Sports concerning peaking in a perfect era, visualizing himself as the world’s best and biding his time for big-name fights.
There is no doubting that this year hasn’t gone as planned for Eubank Jr despite registering the best win of his career so far. February 29th is a day that will live long in the memories of the Brit, having come out tops against fellow countryman James DeGale, despite conceding experience and size. That moment was obviously the highlight of his career.
Eubank’s boxing career took a major hit in 2014 following a well-documented loss to Billy Joe Saunders. Another humiliating loss to George Groves at the beginning of last year placed lots of question marks concerning the future of the 29-year-old.
However, Eubank Jr managed to salvage his boxing career earlier this year, thanks to an unexpected victory over the more experienced DeGale. This win provided him with a prized platform to build his career on.
Now, Eubank Jr, still as optimistic as ever, can admit that the win over DeGale earlier in the year was just the start of a very busy 2019 that would see him gain more wins under his belt as well as enhance his profile.
Ever since humbling DeGale with the third loss of his illustrious career at a congested O2 Arena in London, Eubank Jr has been waiting patiently for his next big opportunity. It is worth noting that DeGale’s defeat at the hands of his fellow countryman ultimately sent him into immediate retirement. The boxer felt it was high time he hung his boxing gloves.
When quizzed about his future plans, Eubank Jr told Sky Sports, “I cannot give an exact date but expect to see me back in the ring in about two to three months.”
“The win over De Gale felt satisfying for several reasons as it proved what I’ve known all along. There were many who had some doubts over me regarding my position in this sport, but I’ve always believed in myself, and that’s the way it’s always been”, he concluded.
Eubank Jr is ranked as the world’s second-best active super-middleweight according to BoxRex and seventh by The Ring magazine.
