The Los Angeles Lakers head coach Darvin Ham admitted that the team has to be more organized in order to use Anthony Davis. The Lakers suffered their seventh loss of the season against the Cleveland Cavaliers as they were beaten by 114-100 on Sunday night.
Interestingly, Anthony Davis made only two shots in the second half. Davis was 4-5 from the field in the first half and he was just 1-2 in the second half of the game. The Lakers could collectively score 36 points in the last two quarters and it led to their downfall.
“Obviously, it starts with AD and getting him more touches,” LeBron James said afterward. “Our focal point is and always should be to make sure he touches the ball throughout the course of possessions, quarters, halves.”
On the other hand, Russell Westbrook added that he tries to make plays for Anthony Davis when he is on the court but feels the decision of how to get the best out of him depends on the coach.
“I don’t know whose primary job it is, to be honest,” said Russell Westbrook. “I’ll leave it up to the coaches to figure out the best way for them to utilize him.
“When I’m in, I do the best job I can in making reads, try to make the game easier for him when I’m in.”
Meanwhile, Darvin Ham reckons the onus depends on the players to come up with a collective effort for the team.
Ham said, “These guys are not rookies.”
“We have a playbook. We have a menu and a bunch of sets where AD can be featured,” Ham said. “You have to just be organized.”
“He’s got my blessing to scream out, call his own number,” Ham said. “We tried to get him going, tried to get Bron going on some post actions and some step-ups and pick-and-roll stuff. It’s not like we’re not trying.
The Lakers will need to turn the tables as they have gotten off to a poor start. The Lakers will next take on Utah Jazz on Monday night.
