Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr feels they have played really well in the last couple of weeks. Kerr was delighted after the Warriors thrashed Portland Trail Blazers by 157-101 in the final regular season match on Sunday to secure sixth position in the Western Conference standings.
In fact, the Warriors created history as they scored 55 points in the first quarter, the most by any team in the NBA. Steph Curry top-scored with 26 points but Klay Thompson, Moses Moody, and Jordan Poole also scored 20 or more points for the Dubs.
The Warriors have peaked at the right time in the tournament as they have won eight out of their last 10 matches before the playoffs.
“We’ve played really well the last couple of weeks,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “I think we’ve won eight of 10. Today guys were locked in right from the beginning. Guys knew what was at stake and controlled the game from the opening tap so hopefully that carries over to next week.”
Meanwhile, Klay Thompson became the third player in NBA history to score at least 300 3-pointers in a single season.
“I pulled Klay aside two minutes before the game and said, ‘Just let it happen,’” Kerr said. “He said ’no problem Coach” and then he made five 3s in the first five minutes. That’s Klay.”
Thompson was delighted after claiming the record and gave credit to the hard work he has done behind the scenes.
“It’s cool to lead the league in 3s made,” Thompson said. “It’s something I’ve never done before. It’s a testament to my hard work over the last few years, some dark times that have turned into some beautiful moments.”
