LA Lakers head coach Darvin Ham feels the team needed to prove something to themselves after finally securing their first win of the season. The Lakers had gotten off to a horrid start after they lost their first five matches of the season and they had to take a lot of criticism from all across the globe.
However, Ham feels they needed the win for themselves and not show it to the world. The Lakers defeated Denver Nuggets by 121-110 on Sunday night and this win must have done them a world of good.
It was once again LeBron James, who led from the front as he scored 26 points for the team.
“Tonight, we needed to prove something to ourselves,” Ham said afterward. “Not to the world. Not to the media. We had to prove it to ourselves, and I felt great about how we responded.”
On the other hand, Anthony Davis had missed the previous match due to a back injury. Davis made a spectacular return as he scored 23 points and 15 rebounds. He revealed that they gave an ice bucket bath to their coach to celebrate the win.
“Very nice little bath,” said Lakers big man Anthony Davis. “There’s not more we can ask for from a coach. … We deserve it, he deserves it, and it was good to get him his first win as a head coach.
“He made a speech, and it was like, ‘All right, Coach, we don’t care what you’re saying,’ and then we drowned him with water.
Ham feels the team was able to come up with a collective effort and he was delighted with the team’s performance.
“I just think the ball had a little pop to it. Guys were penetrating, kicking, finding open shooters, and guys didn’t hesitate,” Ham said. “I’ve been saying it since Day 1: Shots are going to fall. Our offense is going to catch up to our defense.”
The Lakers will next face New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night.
