Golden State Warriors talisman Klay Thompson has backed his team to bounce back despite trailing by 3-1 in the Western Conference semifinals against Los Angeles Lakers. The Dubs found themselves in a spot of bother and one loss away from being knocked out of the NBA 2022-23 season after their 104-101 loss in Game 4.
Thompson offered a reminder that they have made a recovery from such a situation earlier in the NBA and they have the players to replicate the same. When they had their backs against the wall after trailing Oklahoma City Thunder by 3-1 in the 2016 Western Conference finals, the Dubs had made a stunning comeback to clinch the series.
But they have made such a comeback out of the 15 occasions after trailing by 3-1 in the NBA.
“We made history before. The goal is to win one at home. We know we are capable of taking care of home court. It’s about staying present and not looking ahead,” Warriors guard Klay Thompson said.
“It’s fun to reflect on the past and learn from it and take that same competitive energy that brought us back in the past to today.”
The team’s head coach Steve Kerr feels it is imperative for the team to get the impetus on their side and it will give them a lot of confidence if they can win at home.
“It feels like what it is,” Kerr said. “You go home and you take care of business. You get a win. And the momentum is right back in your favor. That’s all it is. Someone has to win four times. That’s why you play it out.”
Meanwhile, Los Angeles Lakers had outclassed GSW by 27-17 in the last quarter of Game 4, with Lonnie Walker IV scoring all of his 15 points in the final frame. Steph Curry admitted they good look shots but could not convert them, which led to their downfall. However, Curry has confidence in his team to stage a comeback.
“We had good looks that didn’t go in, but we fought all the way down to the last second to give ourselves a chance to steal a win,” Curry said. “Fourth quarter, we only scored 17 points. That’s a tough way to finish. I have to look at the film to see exactly where defensively they made adjustments, but we had a lot of good looks. We had confidence.”
The fifth game of the series will be played on Thursday night.
