Golden State Warriors superstar Klay Thompson is very excited to pair up with another top-quality point guard in Chris Paul in the upcoming season. Despite being rivals in the past, Thompson understands the quality that Paul brings to this Warriors outfit.
The Warriors did not do a great job in defending their title last season and therefore they have made some drastic changes to their lineup. They traded away Jordan Poole in exchange for Chris Paul. The trade raised a lot of eyeballs as many people thought Poole was one of their most prized possession after Stephen Curry.
The guard was young and had shown glimpses of his star potential but the Warriors went ahead with the trade and brought in a veteran points guard who can still be a great fit for the Warriors.
In contrast to public opinion, Curry and Thompson are very positive about the trade as they feel that the team will now have a different dimension with CP3 on the floor. Thompson believes that their duo can cause wonders with Paul dishing out the assists and Thompson making the buckets at will.
Thompson expressed his thoughts on the trade in a recent episode of Podcast P with Paul George. “I mean, we’re lucky. That’s one of the greatest players ever. He’s top 75. He’s elevated every franchise he ran the point for. And me as a shooter, I’m excited. I just know CP’s gonna put it right here, on the seams. He’s going to set me up nice. I’m going to get a couple of extra easy buckets every night and he’s a winner,” He stated.
Thompson also shared how he has made plans to go up against Paul but now the two will share the same dressing room. “I’ve played against him so many times. You see how competitive he is. He’ll do anything to win. That’s the vibe we want,” he added.
Thompson has shown great confidence regarding Paul’s inclusion in the lineup. The veteran definitely has the ability to change the Warriors especially when we see how he developed young teams like Oklahoma City Thunder and Phoenix Suns into competitive outfits. His vision and passing will be given great value when he combines with sharp-shootersThompson and Curry.
The upcoming season will be a challenge for the Warriors and especially Thompson as he will be a vital cog in offense. With Curry always locked in and Paul also on the floor, Thompson will have to knock down his chances and also his role in floor spacing will be much bigger this time. Although he is a liability in defence, Thompson may play with more enthusiasm just because his contract extension is very near.
