Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry will miss at least two upcoming games due to a left ankle injury sustained during Sunday’s 112-104 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. An MRI on Monday revealed no structural damage but confirmed a left peroneal tendon strain, sidelining the 36-year-old for Tuesday and Wednesday’s home games against the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Warriors announced Curry will be re-evaluated on Friday, with hopes he could return for Saturday’s road game against the Houston Rockets. The injury occurred with 2:43 left in the third quarter on Sunday, forcing Curry off the court initially. Although he remained on the bench, Curry attempted to return with just over eight minutes left in the fourth quarter.
His comeback was short-lived, however, as he aggravated the injury within 13 seconds, requiring assistance from teammate Gary Payton II as he limped off the court.
Curry managed 18 points, six assists, and made four of his seven 3-point attempts in 27 minutes before his exit. Across three games this season, he is averaging 18.3 points, 6.7 assists, and 5.3 rebounds, showing his continued impact in his 16th year with the Warriors. Curry, a two-time MVP and 10-time All-Star, holds the NBA’s all-time records for 3-point field goals made (3,758) and career free-throw percentage (.910), showing his invaluable role on the team.
The Warriors are also grappling with other injuries. Guard De’Anthony Melton, dealing with a lower back strain, is confirmed out for both Pelicans games. Additionally, forward Andrew Wiggins is listed as questionable due to a similar back strain, putting further strain on the Warriors’ roster as they try to maintain momentum early in the season.
Curry’s absence will force the Warriors to rely on other key players to bridge the gap. In addition to Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, Jordan Poole is likely to step into an expanded role as the team seeks to generate offense and maintain their rhythm. Coach Steve Kerr will likely adjust his rotations and may turn to players like Moses Moody and Jonathan Kuminga for additional minutes and contributions on both ends of the court.
With Curry’s status pending a re-evaluation later in the week, Warriors fans and the organization will be eagerly awaiting his return. The hope is that his rest and recovery will minimize any risk of exacerbating the injury, as the Warriors look to navigate the early season while preserving their superstar’s long-term health.
