The Golden State Warriors are one of the most dominant dynasties in NBA History and they have a great roster and a fine coach in Steve Kerr who continues to stay with the team and help them achieve more. Last season they proved that they have the mentality of winning difficult games as they defeated the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals in six games.
The Warriors went through a lot of adversity as there were injuries to many players, fading form and many other concerns but to fight them out and win the Championship again was a statement from the franchise, players and also from the coach. Despite the issues they continued to get better and never gave up and therefore they showed everyone what they can do when the have a healthy roster.
Recently speaking on ‘Dubs Talk’, Steve Kerr highlighted how it is rare for teams to find their key players and if they do so it is rare for the players to stay in that team for so long. Kerr shared how it has been a massive honour for him to stay with this franchise for so long and also to coach some fine talent that includes the likes of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, etc.
“If you think about coaches who had long tenures with teams whether it’s Jerry Sloan or Phil Jackson, Pat Riley, Gregg Popovich, all these guys. There’s a reason they stuck around that long. And not just talented players, but special players, smart, tough players. I look at our roster, Steph and Draymond and Klay and Andre, I mean these guys are Incredible Winners, competitors,” Kerr pointed out.
He shares how it is incredible how the players have stuck together and kept on going with the same franchise for so long. Kerr points out how it is more about the players and he just tries to keep the team together. “The fact that they’ve been together for so long and that I’ve been, you know, I came along a little bit after they did, but you know, the fact that we’re still going, it’s really about them and their abilities. And my job is to try to keep it going for as long as possible.”
Apart from Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, Kerr also had a veteran like Andre Iguodala, break out star Jordan Poole and Andre Wiggins who have been very valuable pieces for this team. While Kerr has coached some more talented players who are currently not with the Warriors, this current team also looks pretty good to defend their title this season.
The Dubs have added some valuable supporting cast which includes Donte DiVincenzo and JaMychal Green. They already have a bunch of young core which includes talented players like Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody and James Wiseman who are in line to replace the current stars in the starting five hence looking to continue the legacy of the Warriors.
