Golden State Warriors defeated Phoenix Suns by 123-112 on Monday night to register their eighth consecutive win while playing at home. In fact, the Dubs didn’t have a great record against the Suns in the previous meetings but they were able to turn the corner.
Klay Thompson added 33 of his 38 points in the first half whereas Stephen Curry added 23 points, seven rebounds, and five assists as the Splash brothers brought their best to the court.
Curry said they were motivated to do well against Phoenix Suns as they had been beaten by them earlier in the season.
“There’s always a little bit of extra motivation when you got smacked a couple times against a certain team but it’s more so about our own focus,” Curry said as quoted by AP.
On the other hand, the team’s head coach Steve Kerr showered praise on Klay Thompson, who smashed eight three-pointers.
“We knew how big a game it was and Klay knew how big it was and came out and set the tone,” coach Steve Kerr said.
Moreover, Jordan Poole had 20 points and six assists off the bench for the reigning champions. GSW have ticked the right boxes while playing at home as they have a 29-7 record whereas they are 7-26 while playing away.
Meanwhile, Kevin Durant could not play for Phoenix Suns due to an ankle injury. However, the veteran was not greeted by the San Francisco crowd though he played for GSW in the past and led them to two titles.
“It’s nuts. It’s insane,” Kerr said of Durant not yet being greeted by the San Francisco crowd.
GSW was able to take a 43-21 lead in the first quarter and it was always going to be tough for the Suns to recover from the early deficit. The Warriors will next face LA Clippers on Wednesday night.
