This was an important win for us – Steve Kerr after win against Boston Celtics

    Basketball   |   December 12, 2022

Boston Celtics have been a force to reckon with in the ongoing edition and they had a 21-5 record before their Saturday night match against Golden State Warriors, who have got off to a mixed start this season. The Dubs haven’t been at their best so far but they brought their fine performance of the season against the previous season’s runners-up.

GSW defeated the Celtics by 123-107 to bag a much-important win under their bag. Klay Thompson was the star of the show for the Warriors as he top-scored with 34 points on 14-26 shooting. Steph Curry had 32 points whereas Jordan Poole contributed 20 in the team’s win.

“Especially the way they’ve played this year, they’ve just been so good, so dominant. I thought we needed a game like that,” Kerr said. “We’ve been a bit stuck in the mud. It feels like we’ve gotten better but not a whole lot to show for it. This was an important win for us.”

Curry feels the team was connected on both ends of the court and they were able to reap rewards for their good work.

“The game was connected,” Curry said. “When you’re locked in defensively and you worry about the things that impact the flow of the game and your matchup and the challenges there, you’re usually rewarded with looks and rhythm and flow on offense … it was great to see everything connect on both ends for [Thompson] and for our team.”

Apart from scoring 34 points, Klay Thompson scored two assists, five rebounds, two steals, and one block. Thompson revealed he is cherishing the opportunity to play defense and rising his game to a new level to help in the success of his team.

“I cherish being able to go out there and play defense and compete more than I ever have before,” Thompson said. “So when you face the best, your game usually reflects that and you try to rise to the level of competition.”

Curry added it was a must-win match for his team against a tough opponent, who have been at their best in the ongoing season.

“It just gives you the recipe on the intensity and focus you have to have to beat a team like that,” Curry said.

“Knowing how hard it is to win on the road, we haven’t done it well at all this season. … We want to feel good about ourselves getting on the plane … and figure out how to really take advantage of the opportunity in front of us.”
