Golden State Warriors are the NBA 2021-22 champions. The Dubs defeated Boston Celtics by 103-90 at TD Garden on Thursday night to take the series by 4-2 and win their fourth NBA title in the last eight years.
Steph Curry was once again the star of the show for Steve Kerr’s team. The talisman top-scored with 34 points to lead his team to NBA Championship. Curry had an off-day at the office in Game 5 as he had scored only 16 points and had failed to even score a solitary three-pointer.
However, he was able to turn the tables in Game 6 of the series. Thus, he was awarded the Finals MVP for his prolific performances against the Celtics.
Meanwhile, the Dubs had lost the 2019 NBA Finals by 4-2 against Toronto Raptors but they were able to bring their A-game in this season.
“This one is definitely different because of the three years of baggage we carried coming out of that Game 6 in 2019,” Curry said. “I can say it now, I don’t know how many teams could carry that as long as we have with the expectations of comparing us now to teams of past and make it to the mountaintop again.”
On the other hand, Klay Thompson was delighted after his team was able to clinch the NBA championship.
“I was feeling absolutely incredible,” Thompson said. “People called me crazy. I said championship or bust because I saw how we came out of the gates,” Thompson said. “I knew we had a chance to do something special, and here we are. It’s so incredible. Wow.”
In fact, before the season a lot of doubts were raise about whether GSW will be able to go all the way. However, they were able to prove their critics wrong.
“A lot of chatter. A lot of doubters. But you know what, you just put that in your fuel tank and you just keep going. And it does definitely hit different,” Thompson said. “I’ve got a memory like an elephant. I don’t forget. There were a lot of people kicking us down.”
Curry added: “The conversations about who we were as a team and what we were capable of … we hear all that, and you carry it all and you try to maintain your purpose, not let it distract you, but you carry that weight. And to get here, it all comes out. It’s special.”
GSW deserves all the credit as they came up with a collective show throughout the season and they were always a force to reckon with.
