Stephen Curry created history last week when he broke Ray Allen’s record of most three-pointers in the NBA. Curry scored the record-breaking 2974th triple of his career against New York Knicks when 7:44 were left on the clock in the first quarter at the iconic Madison Square Garden.
Curry revealed the message he received from Ray Allen after he broke his record. Allen who had kept the record for 10 years, told Curry that he deserves this special moment after working so hard in his career.
Curry is regarded as one of the best shooters in the game and his records speak for himself. The talisman has thus far scored 2982 threes in 790 regular season matches, which is 510 games less than Ray Allen. Thus, there is a massive difference in the consistency level.
“Just mainly that this is a special moment that you deserve and to embrace it, make it your own, get lost in it.”
“I remember watching him at the Garden breaking Reggie’s record, and the emotion, and the elation on his face, and just knowing what you pour into this game, year after year after year. And he gave me that advice going into it,” said the Golden State Warriors star.
“It’s also about how legends like him and Reggie support the next generation that are trying to take what they did, the belief that they instilled in me as a young shooter, to kind of dream big, that they still support and encourage, and are still here to help me celebrate. I appreciate that, and, a nice way to pass the torch,” he added.
Curry would aim to continue his good form and he has played a key role in the success of the Golden State Warriors as they have a 24-6 record. However, the team lost their previous match against Toronto Raptors by 119-100 as Curry didn’t play. GSW will next face Sacramento Kings on Monday.
