NBA analyst Zach Lowe reckons LA Lakers chances of winning the championship will be boosted if they trade Russell Westbrook to Brooklyn Nets for Kyrie Irving. Irving has been associated with the Lakers during the off-season and Lowe believes his signing could give the team a puncher’s chance at the championship.
Meanwhile, LeBron James will be looking to clinch his fifth NBA title in the upcoming season. The Lakers could not even qualify for the playoffs in the previous edition and James, who will be playing his 20th season in the NBA, will be determined to turn the tables.
On the other hand, Lakers new head coach Darvin Ham had recently said that he is looking forward to working with Russell Westbrook and wants to keep him at the franchise.
Meanwhile, Lowe believes LeBron James doesn’t have a lot of time up his sleeve as he is in the fag end of his career. James is already 37 years-old but he is still at the top of his fitness.
“This is LeBron at age 37 turning 38 this season. He’s all-in to win right now, he has no time and he’s not going to tolerate anything but all-in commitment Kyrie Irving,” Lowe said on ESPN’s Get Up.
“Russ for Kyrie, now there has been draft pick compensation in there because that deal really helps the Lakers, but that deal on its own if Kyrie Irving is available transforms the Lakers from what I think is lost cause as a title contender to a team that at least has a puncher’s chance doing that,” Lowe said.
Meanwhile, LeBron James was at his absolute best for the LA Lakers as he was averaging 30.3 ppg in the previous season but he could not get the support of his teammates and his efforts mostly went in vain.
On the other hand, Kyrie Irving could not make a winning duo with Kevin Durant for Brooklyn Nets. Irving could not play in New York because was not vaccinated against Covid-19.
