NBA analyst Mike Greenberg wants the Los Angeles Lakers to lose their Play-in tournament match against the New Orleans Pelicans. The Lakers are currently in eighth-seed right behind the seventh-seed New Orleans Pelicans.
If the Lakers win against the Pelicans, they will face defending champions Denver Nuggets. Greenberg feels the Lakers must avoid the Nuggets in the opening round of the playoffs if they are to advance in the tournament.
The ESPN expert reckons the Lakers don’t have the ammunition to beat an in-form Nuggets. Greenberg also wants the Lakers to rest Anthony Davis.
“The Lakers should not play tomorrow night,” Greenberg said on Get Up on ESPN. “They should not play LeBron, they should not play AD. They do not want to be the 7-seed. You want to be the 8.”
Greenberg reckons the Lakers have no chance against the Nuggets.
“I recognize the risk, but I think life is about assessing risk vs. reward,” Greenberg said. “Is it worth that risk to avoid playing Denver in round one or round two? The Nuggets are the one team the Lakers have no chance to beat.”
Meanwhile, the Lakers had a 47-35 record in the regular season. The Lakers have been in fine form, winning 11 out of their last 14 matches. Darvin Ham’s team also won their last regular season match against the New Orleans Pelicans by 124-108.
Anthony Davis suffered from back spasms in the last game against the Pelicans. However, Davis confirmed he will play in the play-in tournament.
“No doubt that I’m going to play,” Davis said after the win.
