Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry picked up a left shoulder injury late into the third quarter of their 125-119 loss to Indiana on Wednesday.
Curry, the four-time NBA Champion and last NBA Finals Most Valuable Player, got hurt while trying to snatch the ball away from Indiana’s Jalen Smith, who was driving the ball to the hoop.
After the collision, Curry was seen holding his shoulder for a while and he left the court moments later. He was taken to the locker room immediately to address his injury.
As confirmed by the Warriors’ coach Steve Kerr, an MRI exam will be conducted on Curry on Thursday to determine the extent of the injury.
“We’ll see how he is tomorrow. He’s in good spirits and we’ll hope for the best,” Kerr said.
The 34-year-old guard finished with 38 points, seven assists and as many rebounds. The Warriors trailed 74-54 in the first two quarters and Curry scored 27 points in those two quarters, which was half of that scored by the entire team.
This was also his 250th career performance with 30 points or more. Curry has been averaging 30 points per game this season and he has also hit 50% from the floor. He has also recorded 6.7 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.7 blocked shots per game on average.
Losing Curry for even a couple of games could prove to be a major setback for the Warriors.
“Maybe it’s going to get tougher if Steph is out for a little while. If he’s out, for sure it will be tougher,” Kerr said.
“But you’ve just got to persevere, keep playing and keep fighting. If we’re healthy we feel like we can beat anybody.”
As far as the performance of the Indiana players in the game went, Tyrese Haliburton scored 29 points. Bennedict Mathurin also added 24 points to the pacers.
