The NBA currently boasts of several young and talented players. Some of the youngsters have shown great maturity and character in their performances. Two of such players are Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. The young duo of the Boston Celtics are looking unstoppable this season as both the players are averaging career highs and have taken up the offensive burden on themselves.
They recently came out on top against Steph Curry’s Golden State Warriors and the former NBA champion was very much impressed. In a recent interview, he compared the progress of Brown and Tatum similar to that of his teammates Klay Thompson. “You have two talented guys who have to learn how to play off each other. One guy has got it and the other guy has to learn to stay engaged and vice versa and both elevate yourself in the same process.”
Curry added, “Understanding how they can get the most out of their individual talent and put it together and balance it with the rest of the guys. There’s definitely a lot of similarities there.”
The Boston Celtics came out on top 111-107 against the Warriors and Brown scored 19 points with 10 rebounds and 4 assists while Tatum finished the match with 27 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. It was their collective effort that propelled the Celtics to win the match. Therefore Steph Curry was impressed as he finished with the game-high 38 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists.
The Celtics are dependent on these two young guns who have shown that they are more than ready to take the next step. It is surprising as the Celtics also have four-time All-Star Kemba Walker who is gradually finding his feet this season after recovering from an injury this season. Walker finished the game with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists, much improved performance in comparison to his earlier ones from this season.
However, despite the best efforts of Brown and Tatum the Celtics have struggled to keep up with the Sixers, Bucks, etc. New signing Tristian Thompson has failed to live up to expectation and Marcus Smart has also been very inconsistent. So it will be interesting to see whether the young duo manages to inspire the Celtics for the remainder of the season.
