The rivalry between the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers is only heating up more this season. Especially after the Sixers winning the match against the Lakers last week which was also their first loss of the season on the road. They lost to the Detroit Pistons right after that which proves that the loss took away the good momentum that Frank Vogel’s men had.
The Sixers won that game 107-106 and Joel Embiid had a top performance while Tobias Harris connected the game-winning shot. Even Ben Simmons came to the fray with 17 point triple-double. Embiid had a team-high 28 points, along with 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocked shots to lead the Sixers. Apart from the winner, Harris had a total of 24 points. On the other hand, Anthony Davis ended the night 23 points, along with 8 rebounds and two blocked shots with LeBron James having the game-high of 34 points, to go along with 6 rebounds and 6 assists.
However, the rivalry was not limited to the court as the repercussions of it are clear even off the court. Recently Embiid appeared on a Twitch stream called Munch. There he was part of a session and was questioned whether it is hard to play FIFA or guard Anthony Davis. After delaying a couple of seconds, Embiid said playing FIFA is tougher.
The clip of the stream went viral all over the social media and fans are coming up with their stories of why Embiid said something like that. However, it can be a reply to what Davis said at the post-game show. The Lakers’ power forward clearly stated that according to him the Lakers would win had they faced the Sixers in the finals. It was uncalled for from Davis especially after dealing with a defeat. Also, these are still early days into the season and a statement like that can bring a lot of backlash later in the finals.
It is clear from Embiid’s reaction that he has not taken Davis’ comments kindly and hence he gave a reaction of his own on the Twitch stream. However, the Cameroonian has been sensational this season and is even being considered as one of the early MVP picks. That has been the level of play for Joel Embiid who is averaging 28.3 points, 11.1 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game. If he continues to keep up this form then he may very well land his first MVP award this season.
