Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander delivered a stellar 35-point performance to lead his team to a 118-108 win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday. The victory improved the Thunder’s league-best record to 37-8 and helped them rebound from a surprising loss to the Dallas Mavericks earlier in the week.
The Thunder, leading the Western Conference, displayed their depth and resilience in a game that saw contributions across the roster. Jalen Williams chipped in 24 points, while Isaiah Joe added 16 off the bench. Center Isaiah Hartenstein, returning after a five-game absence due to a calf injury, posted a double-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and a crucial block.
Despite trailing by 15 points at the start of the fourth quarter, Portland mounted a late comeback. Anfernee Simons’ three-pointer cut the deficit to six with 2:37 remaining, but the Thunder responded under pressure.
Hartenstein’s dunk off a pass from Gilgeous-Alexander restored order for Oklahoma City with 1:49 left, pushing their lead to 112-106. Moments later, Gilgeous-Alexander’s driving layup sealed the victory by putting the Thunder back up by double digits.
“Just executing,” Hartenstein said of the team’s response to the Trail Blazers’ rally. “Focusing on the details.”
Gilgeous-Alexander, averaging 32 points, 6.1 assists, and 5.3 rebounds coming into the game, continued his MVP-caliber season with five rebounds, one assist, and three steals. Oklahoma City dominated the paint, outscoring Portland 52-22, and capitalized on second-chance opportunities with a 28-13 advantage.
For the Blazers, Deni Avdija led the charge with 28 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists. Scoot Henderson contributed 25 points off the bench, while Toumani Camara added 24. However, their efforts weren’t enough to prevent a 15th consecutive loss to the Thunder.
The Blazers started strong, jumping to an early 10-point lead. However, the Thunder closed the first quarter with a 17-7 run to tie the game at 27-27. By halftime, Oklahoma City had built a commanding 66-53 advantage, extending the lead to as much as 19 points in the second half.
The win solidifies Oklahoma City’s dominance as they continue their impressive season, while Portland’s struggles against the Thunder persist.
