The Philadelphia 76ers recently faced the Portland Trailblazers at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The Sixers were massively shorthanded coming into this game with the absence of Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid also decided to rest this game. They then lost Danny Green to a hamstring injury in the third quarter but still somehow found a way to win the game 113-103.
The fans at the venue went berserk with the win as they saw Seth Curry, Georges Niang and Furkan Kormaz take the centre stage for the Sixers. However apart from cheering their team to victory the crowd at the Wells Fargo center had other motives. Their motives involved Blazers talisman, Damian Lillard.
The Sixers are desperately looking to trade in a point guard as Simmons is unlikely to feature for them again. Hence the fans want Lillard to be their point guard. The Sixers fans feel that someone of Lillard’s stature will elevate their team into an NBA Championship contender. During the offseason, there was a lot of talk regarding Lillard’s future. But somehow he is still in Portland. Hence the Sixers’ fans tried to reignite those rumours.
While Lillard has time and again cleared that Portland is his home, the fans were trying their best to convince him to join the Philadelphia 76ers. The Sixers are scheduled to visit Philadelphia only once this season, the fans went berserk to convince the superstar point guard. When Dame found his way to the free-throw line in the first quarter of the match, the Sixers fans started chanting, “We want Lillard!, we want Lillard!”
while it was amazing to see how much love and admiration that the Sixers fans share for Portland’s talisman. But it was dismissed by Lillard himself after the game. He said, “I’m a TrailBlazer … I’m ten toes in Rip City.” It only proves that Lillard is a man of integrity and honour and that has always been his primary trait as a human being.
Lillard has had an uncharacteristic start to the new season. he is averaging 18.3 points per game, which according to his standards is not his best. He is shooting only 23% from beyond the arc and only 34% from the field and it is nothing less than a career-low for the superstar. He will hope that his form returns soon and it brings back the luck for the Portland Trail Blazers aswell.
