Chris Paul is one of the most respected and talented players in the NBA. But often during discussions of great players Chris Paul falls short mainly due to the fact that he does not have a championship ring to his name to date. The winning factor often becomes a reason for Chris Paul not getting enough credit for his exploits on the court.
The Point God led the Phoenix Suns to the NBA finals last season only to lose out against the Milwaukee Bucks. As Chris Paul fell short of the Championship ring yet again people started discussing whether CP3 is even made to go all the way.
That is exactly the reason why legends like Shaquille O’Neal does not consider Chris Paul to be a Championship material. It is definitely not how people should select a criterion to judge a player’s abilities and impact on the NBA history. When discussing NBA greats players like Steve Nash, John Stockton, and Karl Malone will all come to contention despite not winning a NBA title.
In his latest episode of Big Podcast, Shaquille O’Neal shared his opinion about the Phoenix Suns and whether he feels them to be the Championship contenders. But Shaq feels that the Suns are like the Utah Jazz.
In the past Utah Jazz has had a history of having dominating players. They always had the quality but never the performance to pose a threat to the Championship. Earlier Stockton and Malone took the initiative for the Jazz and now they have laid the baton to Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell.
Just like the Suns, the Jazz have also been at the summit of the Western Conference many times. But only to get eliminated in the playoffs. So keeping that fact in mind, O’Neal highlighted, “They ain’t got nobody that scares you”. Further, he said, “Listen, Phoenix is like Utah to me. Got a lot of good players, but some of those players can be punked now, Michelle, I’m just saying.”
The Suns are leading the Western Conference as we head onto the All-Star break. Both Suns stars Devin Booker and Chris Paul have been named All-Star reserves ahead of the highly anticipated All-Star Draft.
It will be interesting to see how the Suns perform in their future matches and whether they can win the Championship this season or not. That will be the best reply from Chris Paul to former Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal.
