Anthony Edwards has been sensational for the Minnesota Timberwolves and he has exceeded the expectations of his franchise with the way he has been playing in recent years. The Timberwolves picked him up as the No.1 draft in 2020 and since then he has not disappointed.
Some analysts were not happy with the pick made by the Timberwolves as most of them expected that it would be Lamelo Ball. Ball is a point guard with great creativity. The talk turned into belief when Ball won the Rookie of the Year over Edwards.
But in the long term, Edwards has outshone Ball and with every passing it looks like the shooting guard is getting better. Even with established stars like Karl-Anthony Towns in the lineup, the Timberwolves saw him outshine everyone in the playoffs last season. He was their best player against the Denver Nuggets.
Paul George in his podcast highlighted how Edwards has continued his purple patch. They feel like the youngster is finally living up to his high ceiling and delivering performances in every single game.
“He’s [Edwards] been playing great. First one of his career and definitely many more for him in the future. I like what I’ve seen from Ant-Man. He’s taking the jump. He’s taking it to the next level. He is a superstar. I know people don’t talk much about it from a superstar level but it’s safe to say and comfortable to put him in that superstar category now. He’s doing it. He’s walking the walk, he’s talking the talk.”
“The Timberwolves team understands that they’re only gonna go as far as he can take them. He’s been phenomenal,” George concluded.
Anthony Edwards is averaging a career-high 26.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game. He is hitting 46.7% of his shots, including 38.8% from behind the arc, career-best numbers.
Highlighting the All-Star guard has been exceptional in crunch-time situations on both ends of the court. He was amazing in the overtime win against the Boston Celtics on November 6 was one such example.
With the way he has been going, Edwards is certain to clinch another All-Star. He was selected to the team last season as a replacement. But this year ‘Ant-Man’ is making a strong case for becoming a starter in next year’s edition.
