“Not relying on Steph Curry,” claims head coach Steve Kerr after Warriors loss against the Blazers

It was a nail-biting affair when the Golden State Warriors went up against the Portland Trailblazers and it was Damian Lillard who came up with a clutch three to bag the win for the Blazers. With this defeat, the Warriors lost their three matches mini-series in the regular season against the Blazers 1-2. The Blazers won this match 108-106 as it almost went into overtime.

Steve Kerr’s men are standing ahead of some tough fixtures and this defeat may have taken the wind out from their sails. First, it was a humiliation against the Lakers and now this defeat against the Blazers and up next they play the Phoenix Suns who are in great form and are coming to this match after defeating the mighty Lakers. So it will be another tough challenge for the Warriors to keep Devin Booker and Chris Paul at bay.

The match against the Blazers saw the GSW talisman scoring 35 points which was the game highest. He notched up a whopping five three points and yet it was all in vain. It was such a tight game that only three players apart from Curry made it to double figures.

Head coach Steve Kerr was evidently disheartened by the loss and also by the performance of his boys on the night. Therefore he spoke in a humble tone at the post-match interview. He said, “We just need more scoring in general from anybody other than Steph. He’s generating everything for us on or off the ball. Obviously, without Kelly tonight, took away one of our best scorers. So, we don’t necessarily need scoring from one position. We just need people to step up night in and night out, provide some extra scoring for us, so we’re not relying solely on Steph.”

The Bulls legend rightly points out how the Warriors are not looking at Curry to score all the points for them but at the moment it is the truth for the Warriors. With Kelly Oubre’s absence on the night, Curry took it all on himself and lacked support big time.

It is high time that the Warriors bench starts delivering the goods that they are capable of and allows Curry some breathing space to play with more freedom. Players like Kent Bazemore, James Wiseman and even Andrew Wiggins need to step up on big matches and deliver and only then the Warriors can think of a strong finish this season.
