NBA and Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has been the face of the league for many years. However, there were the talk of Kevin Durant being better than the King in their matchups during the 2017 and 2018 NBA finals.
Recently television personality Nick Wright shared how the notion of Kevin Durant being the better player than LeBron James in those two series was wrong. Wright shared his opinion on ‘On What’s Wright?’ podcast.
Wright shared how despite Kevin Durant winning two Championships changed nothing in terms of quality. He feels that even if Durant and LeBron had switched placed then also the Golden State Warriors would have won.
“The idea that KD was better than LeBron when KD was in Golden State, I understand KD won those championships, does anyone in the world think KD and LeBron switch places and KD was on those Cavs teams and LeBron was on Warriors teams, those finals would’ve gone any different? No.”
Wright in fact shared how without LeBron James, the Cleveland Cavaliers would not be in the 2018 NBA finals. He shared how LeBron James guided a team where he had players like Kevin Love, Jeff Green and others. He did not have the support of Kyrie Irving. So Wright feels that had LeBron been replaced by Durant then the Cavaliers would not have made it to the NBA Championship finals.
“The only difference would’ve been in 2018, when it was LeBron, Kevin Love half the time and Jeff Green, no Kyrie, if that was KD there in place of LeBron in 2018, there’s no chance those Cavs team make the finals.”
The finals matchup between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors happened in the finals of 2017 and 2018. The Golden State Warriors won both years, they won in 2017 in five games whereas they completely swept the Cavaliers in the following year.
LeBron James’ return to Cleveland was a big call after the disappointment of losing the 2014 NBA Finals. It was a major call that could have gone wrong but LeBron never allowed it to happen. With players like Kyrie Irving coming on the roster, it soon became a Championship challenging team. The Akron Hammer had a four-year stint with the Cavs and he had some sensational wins for them on his second stint. He at times single handedly helped the team win matches and guided them to four NBA finals by dominating the Eastern Conference.
