The Phoenix Suns are on the verge of achieving history as they are just two wins away from winning their first NBA Championship in franchise history. A lot of that credit goes to veteran point guard Chris Paul. it was his arrival at Phoenix that changed the dynamics of the team.
CP3 made Devin Booker and company a lot more dynamic and made them believe in themselves. Paul’s experience and Monty Williams’ tactical brain has helped the Suns reach this uncharted level this season. While Chris Paul may lead the Suns to their first championship, the veteran may also leave the franchise next season.
There are rumours that Chris Paul may leave the Suns to join the New York Knicks for the upcoming season. In recent weeks the rumour has gained a lot of momentum indicating that Paul will opt out from his final year contract with the Suns. However, if that happens then other teams will also be in the running to sign the ‘Point God’ in the offseason.
Nevertheless, the Knicks are very interested to sign Chris Paul. Their recent progression to the playoffs for the first time since 2013 adds more fuel to the cause. Some people feel that the franchise wants to build on this and make a more successful team for the future. Hence Knicks legend Earl Monroe is also excited to see Chris Paul donning the Knicks shirt next season.
“I would love to see him at the Garden,” Monroe mentioned in an interview with New York Post. “His game is made for 33rd Street. I would love to see it, but I don’t know if it will happen. You get to a point he’s going to teams — except for OKC — that can compete for the championship. I don’t know if the Knicks can compete unless they get another piece.”
The Knicks have done well with the likes of Derrick Rose and Julius Randle but Monroe feels that the addition of Chris Paul will make the team a huge competitor for next season’s title. He said, “They (Knicks) have a nucleus of guys. They need a little bit more. They were very competitive all year and didn’t have [center] Mitchell Robinson most of the year.”
