Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been on fire this season. He has led the young Thunder outfit with aplomb and has been among the breakthrough stars of the season. The 24-year-old has been putting on a show almost every night as he is averaging 31.1 points per game and is third in the scorer’s list this season.
While the star from Kentucky has never been an All-Star till now but with the exceptional performance that he is dropping every night and with some unreal consistency, Shai is one of the players who are in the running for the All-Star this season.
He recently dropped a magical career high of 42 points against the Washington Wizards a couple of weeks ago and it is clear how he is getting better with every passing game. Recently speaking on the youngster, ESPN expert Kirk Goldsberry believes that the least that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander deserves is a place in the All-Star Game. He believes that if Shai continues like this then he may even start the game.
“Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, let’s just call it what it is. He’s one of the best scorers in the league right now. He’s never made the All-Star Game, and we can go through some numbers, but this dude is an All-Star at least. He should probably be starting the game,” Goldsberry stated.
He dug up some statistics and shared how most of the players who were averaging 30 have started the All-Star game and that is something that should happen with SGA aswell. “I’ll give you just like a basic stat that we dug up on the research that it’s like out of sixty two players that have averaged, at least, 30 points a game prior to the all-star game in the NBA history, 60 made the All-Star Game 54 of those started it.”
Shai Gilgeous Alexander is in contention to become the most improved player this season as he has turned into a superb player for the Thunder. In the 19 games this season he is averaging 31.1 points per game with 515% shooting from the field. The only two players ahead of him in scoring averaging are Luka Doncic who is leading the MVP race and reigning champion Stephen Curry.
The kentucky youngster leads the league in 30-point games as he already has 14 followed by Doncic who has had 13 games, whereas Curry has 12
Despite Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s sensational performances the Thunder are only 12th in the Western Conference with a sub par 8-12 record.
