Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis had a very tough season where he started very strongly but his persistent injury problems kept him out of action during crucial stages of the NBA season. AD along with Lebron James had already won the NBA Championship in the Orlando bubble in 2020 and people expected an even better Lakers this time. Some of them claimed that the Purple and Gold Army were the favourites to defend their title.
The experts thought that it was a huge season for AD as LeBron would pass on the baton to him> However that did not happen and instead both James and Davis got injured and the young Lakers supporting bench failed to deliver the goods needed. The Lakers somehow managed to qualify for the playoffs after featuring in the newly introduced playin tournament. The Lakers did brush aside Stephen Curry’s Golden State Warriors in the play-ins and then they were knocked out in the first round against a buoyant Phoenix Suns side.
The last season was tough for AD as he saw his performance dropped over the course of the season. However, Davis has assured everyone that he will be back with a bang in the upcoming season.
NBA veteran Kendrick Perkins heading into the offseason, has openly backed Davis, calling for an MVP-like season from the big man in 2021. Perkins, via The Jump on ESPN, said – “I believe Anthony Davis is gonna come back on a mission. Matter of fact I’m predicting right now, he’s gonna be the one to win MVP next season.”
“He sees all the slander; he’s hearing everything about Giannis. He’s very quiet at the moment. And from what I’m hearing, he’s working his tail off behind the scenes. I would not panic if I am a Lakers fan cuz you still have LeBron and AD,” said the former NBA Champion who won the Championship with Boston Celtics.
With Luka Doncic, Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo having big seasons, the limelight will definitely be on these players as they are the faces of the NBA. Among them, Anthony Davis will also return and for GSW Klay Thompson will also be in action. AD won’t be considered as one of the favourites to win the regular-season MVP for the upcoming NBA season as a lot of predictors already predicted in the favour of Luka DOncic or Giannis Antetokounmpo.
