Rajon Rondo is all set to return to the Los Angeles Lakers for a second stint. He plied his trade for the Clippers last season and then got traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. However, the point guard has accepted to buy out his contract to join the Purple and Gold army.
The 35-year-old veteran point guard joins a team stacked with veterans. Starting from LeBron James to Carmelo Anthony, Trevor Ariza, Marc Gasol and Dwight Howard.
While a lot of people are excited to see Rondo in the new Lakers setup, Fox Sports’ NBA analyst Skip Bayless is not amused one bit. However, Bayless was lauding Rondo after he joined the Clippers last season. He even called the move as a potential Championship sealer with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George around, he thought Rondo will be able to show his magic for the Clippers.
On the latest episode of ‘Undisputed’ Bayless and Shannon Sharpe discussed Rondo’s move back to the Lakers. Bayless said, “Is LeBron going to be playing off the ball? There’s another guy named Westbrook who has to have the ball in his hands. So they’re gonna play with 2 basketballs? I don’t know!”
Bayless was adamant to already pass out a judgement on the move as he added, “I’m predicting it’s going to blow up in their face.”
The NBA Analyst tried his best to back the statement with logic. He questioned the presence of Russell Westbrook and what it means for Rajon Rondo. He opined, “There was nobody named Russell Westbrook in the bubble. He disqualifies every good move GM LeBron made this year. And that’s another good move, until you remember he’s backing up Russell Westbrook, who does not like coming out of games. He wants to play high mins, he wants to play 40 plus.”
Westbrook and Rondo have had their problems and Bayless feels that this move will upset both players. “If he isn’t he’s going to be unhappy, so you’ll have 2 unhappy campers. Is that what the Lakers want?” he questioned.
The Lakers have too many players who like to take control of the ball. LeBron himself along with Westbrook love the ball in their control and now with Rondo coming in, it will be a question of trust and not the ability for LeBron. It will be fascinating to see how the Lakers perform in the upcoming NBA season.
