Some of the rumours suggest that the Brooklyn Nets are weighing their options to sign Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell. While getting Spida will be a major acquisition for the Nets, they would need to trade Ben Simmons to complete the deal. Hearing these rumours, there are plenty of mixed opinions as some people think that Mitchell will be a great force for the Nets whereas others feel that the Nets have enough scoring threat in Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant and need more of Ben SImmons’ defence and flexibility than Mitchell’s elite scoring.
NBA Analyst Skip Bayless agrees to the latter as he believes that Simmons can be used in multiple positions in this team pairing up with KD and Kyrie. He understands that it is Simmons’ great defensive qualities that make him a very versatile guard. The Australian has shown in the past that he can keep guards at bay and even cause trouble for some centers with his elite defensive game. Bayless’ only concern is that the Nets should find a way to work on free throw and rest is all fine for them.
Recently on the “Undisputed with Shanon and Skip, Bayless shared, “If he’s (Ben Simmons) 100% right, and they can get him a little tighter at the late game free-throw line or at least walk around that, he’s a way better fit at six feet ten inches tall, can defend point guards or center. That’s just what the doctor ordered for the Brooklyn Nets.”
Bayless highlights how Simmons, Kyrie and KD make a better trio than James Harden as he was also not very good on the defensive side of things. So that makes Simmons a much better pick and he believes that Simmons is actually the best pick for the Nets and it makes them a favourite to win everything in the upcoming season. “He’s not a good fit. He is the fit. He’s exactly why I think they should be on paper favorites to win it all because they’re better right now on paper than they were a year ago, to me, with even James Harden, another guy for whom defense is an afterthought. Even though he can steal the ball and disrupt, he’s not an on-ball defender,” Bayless added.
Simons is yet to play a game for the Brooklyn Nets since joining them back in February. He has been going through a rough spell of injury concerns but many people believe that he will be the right fit for the Nets alongside Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. The addition of Donovan Mitchell will surely boost up the scoring considering they were swept by the Boston Celtics last season but that puts their defence in jeopardy so it is a tough choice that they need to make.
