NBA Analyst Shannon Sharpe raises questions over Russell Westbrook’s accountability after poor Lakers season

Russell Westbrook’s last campaign with the Los Angeles Lakers did not go down well as the Purple and Gold army failed to make it to the playoffs last season. Many people thought the trio of LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Westbrook would be immense and help the Lakers win the title last season. But with injuries hindering their progress things didn’t work out well for the Lakers as Westbrook struggled to put his best foot forward.

However, now people feel that Brodie has shifted his priorities while people expected him to hit the gym or train harder for next season he has found peace in the business side of things. Reports have suggested the same as Westbrook is more focused on off court business than improving on his Lakers’s performance for the upcoming season.

While fans are making random opinions on  the Triple Double champion, NBA analyst Shannon Sharpe also comes up with a similar opinion on how Russell Westbrook’s priorities are misguided which could hamper his career at Los Angeles Lakers.

There is no denying the quality of Westbrook who has won several accolades in their 13-year-long NBA career. He has featured in several All Star matches over the years and have also been crowned the Most Valuable Player back in 2017. He has also won the All Star Game MVP twice. He even broke the historic eleven triple doubles record and is a sensational player when in form. But the guiard is yet to win a Championship which is a shame.

Westbrook’s performances in the playoffs have not been as great as his regular season stats. Hence he has not managed to make a deep playoffs run. Lately the fans have pointed out how he always shrugs off accountability when the Lakers lost last season. Shannon Sharpe also believes the same judgement and he feels it is alright to have priorities set but he wants him to be accountable.

“I felt it showed in his play last year that other things were more important. All I’m saying is I got no problem…Russ build the biggest empire! Build a 2, 3, 4, 5 billion dollar empire. I got no problem with that. The only problem I got with Russ is that he refuses to accept accountability when he plays badly and when things aren’t going well,” Sharpe said on his ‘Undisputed podcast.

The upcoming season under Darwin Ham will be a make or a break year for Russell Westbrook as his steep decline for the Lakers has not gone unnoticed and most of the teams are not really excited to have him in their roster especially considering his high monetary demands. So it will be interesting to see how things pans out for Westbrook at Lakers in the upcoming season.
