The Los Angeles Clippers have been tipped as NBA title favourites ever since they acquired the services of Paul George and Kawhi Leonard back in 2019. But since then things have not worked out well for them. The superstar pairing has featured in only 80 matches in this time out of a possible 236 regular season games. There have been dip in form, injury concerns and a lot more over the years. But this season Kawhi Leonard is returning to full fitness after a year of absence due to injury. He will also hope that Paul George also brings his best game and together they can be a force again.
Former NBA Champion and Analyst Kendrick Perkins feels that the Clippers are still capable of winning the Championship given the team that they have on paper. Perkins recently shared how the Clippers have strength in depth and are looking good ahead of the new season. He highlighted how Clippers have depth in the wing position something that is available in scarcity in the league right now.
“No other team has the depth like the Los Angeles Clippers at the wing position and has two-way players like the Clippers. Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, Robert Covington, Nicolas Batum, Norman Powell. That’s five guys at the perimeter position,” Perkins shared to back his statement of Clippers being the favourites to win it all.
Perkins than gradually highlighted how much the Clippers are balanced in attack and defense with Paul george and Kawhi Leonard offering greatly in both ends. Then there is someone like Norman Powell who can run the floor with his offensive prowess whereas Nicolas Batum is a very versatile player who can offer support to the team defensively. “You looking at Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. We know what they can give you offensively. Norman Powell proved that he can average 20 in this league. Now, look at the other end, defense,’ Perkins explained.
“Nicolas Batum, 6-9, versatile defender. Paul George, versatile defender, can guard the guard and wings. Kawhi, we already know what type of savage he is defensively. Robert Covington, a defender. … I’m forgetting Marcus Morris. They still got him, “ he continued proving the depth that the Clippers have.
The comments made by Perkins are surely very thoughtful and if it works out then there is certainly a chance for the Clippers to do wonders this season. But it remains to be seen if the two superstars and their supporting cast manages to stay healthy throughout the stretch of the season.
