Over the years the NBA has seen several sensational talents and Brooklyn Nets talisman Kevin Durant is right up there with the best. Durantula is surely one of the best shooters as he has consistently proven that he is unguardable.
His mid-range jumpers are sensational and mostly they drop in that staying out. Therefore the 12-time All-Star is often brought into GOAT conversations. He is also one of the best ball handlers in the game and there are plenty of reasons to love Durant. Recently LeBron James surpassed Karl Malone for the second place in career scoring, the greatest scorer debate is again brought up. While the discussions are out again, fans, media and analyst have their preferences and bias. The discussions are mostly between Michael Jordan, LeBron James and Kevin Durant.
Jordan has the NBA’s best all-time scoring average (30.12 points per game). But there are talk of him retiring twice and missing five full seasons so he is only fifth in the career scoring with 32,292 points. Jordan led the league in scoring 10 times during his 13-year stint at Chicago Bulls.
James is second in the all-time career scoring list and is on track to surpass Kareem Abdul Jabba. While the Akron Hammer is with 36,985 points, Jabbar is at the summit with 38,387 points. SO it will take some time before James surpasses him.
Kevin Durant on the other hand is a bit low on the list with 25,176 points (22nd) but his exceptional scoring form may let him end up in the top 10 at the end of this season. He recently scored 37 points against Utah Jazz and has a scoring average of 27.139 ppg this season. He is currently fourth in terms of scoring average in a pretty inconsistent season for the Brooklyn Nets.
On ESPN’s “First Take,” Analyst Kendrick Perkins shared how Michael Jordan was never a part of the 50/40/90 group like Durant. He believes that Durantula is well and truly the greatest scorer in NBA. Smith highlighted how MJ struggled shooting three pointers.
“Jordan was never part of the 50/40/90 club, because he did not shoot the trey ball like that,” Perkins said.
Perkins like many others feels that Durant is flawless on the offence. He feels that the Nets talisman’s main strength is his jumper and efficiency. “Lebron James is in the top five, but when I go with the greatest scorer of all-time, I’m going with Kevin Durant.” Perkins said.
“And here’s why. When you talk about a guy that has zero flaws offensively, Kevin Durant has everything and more on his offensive arsenal. Here’s the difference between KD and everybody else: his jump shot and his efficiency. … If Kevin Durant really wanted to, he could have 10 to about 11 scoring titles.”
The Brooklyn Nets fans will hope that Kevin Durant can inspire them back to a better position than where they are at the moment. The Nets started as title favourites but now they are eighth in the Eastern Conference. Therefore they will hope to improve their position ahead of the playoffs.
