The Minnesota Timberwolves were fantastic last season as they made a strong playoffs push and heading into another new season they have bolstered their ranks to become a strength to be reckoned with in the Western Conference.
Some people feel with Rudy Gobert’s addition in the team, they have addressed the major issue on the defensive side of things. The All Center was brought from Utah Jazz and will be looking to lead the defensive end of the Timberwolves unit as Karl Anthony Towns will be seen in a new role in the starting five.
Apart from that youngster Anthony Edwards will be looking to make a huge step going into the new season. He was fantastic last season and if the signs are right Edwards will only improve from there. While they may not right it out off the court right at the start but they have the players to go deep into the postseason.
In a recent episode of ‘The Lowe Post’, The Athletic’s John Krawczynski shared the Timberwolves new lineup and the excitement around the new players. “You have Rudy Gobert coming in. It’s a polarizing deal, but fans here have talked themselves into it,” the Athletic expert shared.
Rudy Gobert is a three time Defensive Player of the Year and will surely be a major boost for the Timberwolves. Then they have Edwards who is a young sensation and will only get better. Lastly they do have Karl Anthony Towns playing more freely in the offense and the supporting cast to be a major threat from the West.
“They’re excited about three time defensive player of the Year and then you have Anthony Edwards who is just an ultra popular figure locally and he has kind of captured the imagination of the fans and really connected with them.”
“I think one thing that basketball fans are really picking up on here is that for the first time in a very long time, it seems like the leadership of this organization is on super solid ground,” Krawczynski shared.
The Timberwolves were lauded for their ability to bring in someone as big as Rudy Gobert to address their issues in defense. While it makes a statement to the other teams it is not the end of their problems. While Gobert sures up the defensive issues and Anthony Edwards getting better, the Timberwolves surely will be looking to improve in the upcoming season.
But with the entire league shifting to a more small ball system, the Timberwolves will have two big men in the starting five and it remains to be seen if the holes in the different positions get exposed due to that factor or not.
There is a genuine interest among the fans regarding the new signings but how far they can go is still a question that remains to be answered in the upcoming season.
