Most people in the NBA fraternity including the Lakers fans believe that the Purple and Yellow Army should opt for a couple of offseason moves which will only help LeBron James and company’s championship chances this season. The Lakers are currently 13th in the Western Conference with a 16-21 record and with Anthony Davis on the sidelines due to injury, the pressure is on LeBron James to lead the team along with veterans like Russell Westbrook and Patrick Beverley.
However having someone like Davis helps a lot on court as it changes the entire complexion of the team’s defense and options in attack as well. AD offers a lot on either ends of the court and with his absence the biggest hit that they have faced is lack of a solid defender to guard the paint.
Recently NBA Analyst Jason Timpf believes that the Lakers need some moves and only then they will progress towards the playoffs and may even challenge for the title later in the season. But with Anthony Davis not nearing a return from injury, the Purple and Yellow Army needs some players who suit their game and their style of play. Among the couple of players one of them is a former Lakers and he has been in red hot form for the Washington Wizards but the Wizards are simply going nowhere even with him performing day in and day out. So the top priority option is Kyle Kuzma.
“When you try to put guys in the right toles, things will even out. I am a big believer that a couple of moves on the periphery. For starters, it will give LeBron a fighting chance. But then when Anthony Davis comes back, everything is in place,” Timpf opines on the current Lakers situation.
“I feel Kyle Kuzma fromm the Washington Wizards. He was awesome for LA the last time. He directly deals with the size issue at the perimeter and has a natural cutting chemistry with LeBron,” he shares how Kuzma will be the ideal player to join the Lakers considering his overall game which goes beyond just scoring points.
Timpf also believes that players like Bojan Bogdanovic can be a player who can add value to this Lakers team whereas he feels Beverley can be traded for someone like a Rudy Gay who will add more versatility to the team and boost their chances of making it to the playoffs.
“I still like Bojan Bogdanovic. There are other guys as well. Such as Patrick Beverley for a Rudy Gay. At the end of the day, if LeBron is gonna play this good and AD will return to his pre-injury levels at some point, they deserve a fighting chance. Give them a fighting chance,” Timpf added.
The Lakers have some good players who have stepped up a couple of times. Players like Dennis Schroder and Thomas Bryant have proven their worth a couple of times whereas LeBron James and Russell Westbrook have taken up extra responsibility in AD’s absence. Hence with a few additions they will surely be a more well rounded team to compete for the playoffs and probably beyond.
