Ja Morant led the Memphis Grizzlies to an overtime victory over the New York Knicks in their season opener. The Grizzlies won the match 115-112 guided by their main man Ja Morant who scored 34 points, nine assists, four rebounds and also a match turning block. He has started the 2022-23 season just where he left off and this time he is determined to take the Grizzlies even higher that last season.
Former NBA champion and analyst Charles Barkley feels that Ja Morant is proper box office with everything that he does. He is full of hunger to improve and prove a point that the entire league knows what they can expect from this guy who has been making the right noises and has the perfect attitude.
In the recent episode of ‘NBA Today’ Barkley shared how Ja Morant is like a mosquito bite from Texas Barbecue. He basically wants to say that the Superstars like Stephen Curry, LeBron James, NIkola Jokic, Joel Embiid and others cannot simply ignore Ja Morant right now the way he is playing.
“G 12 in the building. Ja Morant. To all players in the NBA, and I’m talking to Giannis, I’m talking to Steph Curry, I’m talking to Jokic, Joel Embiid, KD, LeBron James, Ja Morant is on your neck like a mosquito bite at a Texas barbecue,” Barkley stated.
Barkley shared how Ja Morant can shoot, perform in hustle plays, get blocks and also has that supreme playmaking skills which makes him a very complete player from this generation and hence he can compete against the best in the NBA.
“He was fantastic. He talks that talk, and he’s walking that walk. I’m not just talking about what he’s doing on the offensive end. Yes, we know he can score with the best of them in the game today. Yes, we know his playmaking ability,” Charles Barkley added.
While Ja Morant is getting a lot of credit and rightly so for the Overtime win against the Knicks, there were several other players who were exceptional on the night. Two of them finished with double-double on the night which includes Santi Aldama and John Konchar. Also four players finished off with double digit points apart from Ja, so that’s a great thing for the Grizzlies aswell.
Up next the Grizzlies will travel to Houston to face the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center. The Rockets lost their first match against the Atlanta Hawks and will be looking to bounce back whereas Ja Morant’s Grizzlies will be looking to continue the winning run.
