Brooklyn Nets talisman Kevin Durant paid tribute to Vince Carter after overtaking him on the all-time scoring list. Durant moved to the 19th place among all-time leading scorers and now has 25754 points under his bag. Vince Carter had scored 25728 points in his glorious career.
Carter was known for his dunks and Durant recalled his first NBA jersey was Vince Carter when he was in Toronto. The Nets defeated Indiana Pacers by 116-109 on Monday night and Durant played a key role in his team’s win as he scored 36 points, thus leapfrogging Carter’s tally.
Furthermore, Durant also scored nine rebounds and seven assists in the game to come up with a dominating performance.
Speaking to the media after the game, Durant said, “It means a lot. I love to score the ball. That’s the name of the game.
“That’s why we play basketball – to put points on the board, to shift the game, to be mentioned with the greats, to pass somebody I looked up to as a kid – my first NBA jersey was Vince Carter’s when he was in Toronto. So that’s a full-circle moment for me.”
Durant also gave his gratitude to all of his teammates, who have helped him keep growing in the game.
“Grateful for all my teammates along the way that helped me throughout these years, my coaches as well. Everybody just chipped in and helped make me the player that I am today. I just got to keep going.”
Durant revealed that he idolized Vince Carter as a kid growing up.
“Every time I step on the court it is special. I’m just grateful that I get to showcase my skills here on the biggest stage in the NBA. Vince Carter was the first player I watched and idolized as a kid. It’s pretty cool to pass him up. I’m glad that I’m doing it on the national forum.”
Brooklyn Nets are currently 2-5 in the season and they will next face Chicago Bulls on Tuesday night.
