Luka Doncic delivered a scintillating triple-double to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 143-133 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Sunday in a game that shattered the NBA record for combined three-pointers in a single contest.
The Mavericks and Warriors combined for an unprecedented 48 made three-pointers, eclipsing the previous record of 44 set in February 2023. Golden State knocked down 27-of-54 shots from beyond the arc, while Dallas added 21-of-41 in a game that showed offensive fireworks from both teams.
Doncic was at his brilliant best, scoring 45 points on 16-of-23 shooting, including 6-of-11 from three-point range. The 25-year-old Slovenian added 13 assists, 11 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks, marking his ninth career 40-point triple-double.
“No team could miss. They had 18 threes at half-time and we were still up, which is insane,” Doncic said. “It felt like nobody could miss. It was a fun game. A lot of makes. But it was a physical game too.”
The first half alone saw an NBA-record 30 combined three-pointers, with Dallas holding an 81-74 lead at the break. The Warriors hit an astonishing 18 triples in the first two quarters, tying the NBA record for most three-pointers in a half, while Dallas added 12 of their own.
In the fourth quarter, former Warrior Klay Thompson hit the record-breaking 45th three-pointer with 4:32 left on the clock, assisted by Doncic. Thompson, who had a standout performance with a season-high 29 points, including 7-of-11 from beyond the arc, reflected on the moment.
“I’ve had a great history of shooting the ball well here, so I try to tap into that every time I come back,” said Thompson, who won four NBA titles with Golden State. “Legendary stuff. Now it’s time to do some legendary stuff in Dallas. I truly believe in this team.”
The win was the Mavericks’ eighth in their last nine games, propelling them forward in the Western Conference standings. The Warriors, despite their offensive brilliance, struggled to contain Dallas and fell short defensively.
Dallas head coach Jason Kidd praised his team’s execution, particularly Doncic’s leadership. “Luka was incredible as always, but this team’s ability to adapt and keep pushing in a game like this was special.”
The game not only showed the scoring prowess of both teams but also cemented Doncic’s reputation as one of the league’s most unguardable stars. As the season progresses, the Mavericks will look to build on their momentum, while the Warriors will aim to tighten up defensively despite their record-setting offensive outing.
