Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Phil Handy shares LeBron James’ impact at Cleveland Cavaliers in their title winning season

LeBron James will always have a piece of history at Cleveland as he helped them win their first-ever NBA Championship. LeBron’s return to the Cavaliers after a great spell with the Heat is a huge part of his legacy as a player. His return meant that the Cavaliers won the NBA finals against the Golden State Warriors coming back from a 3-1 deficit. It was undoubtedly one of the most epic NBA finals.

His current assistant coach at the Lakers, Phil Handy who was also with him at Cleveland shared the insights of LeBron’s return to the Cavs and how it was a great moment for the franchise.

He revealed how LeBron’s return impacted him on being the assistant coach of the team that season. He also revealed the reasons why Mike Brown appointed him.

“But when I went to Cleveland… and one thing he [Mike Brown] mentioned was one we want you to mentor Kyrie, two, there is a chance that LeBron might come back to Cleveland… Me and Bron always kept in touch, so it just worked out for me to come back to LA and we go back to the finals again,” said Phil.

It is great how most of the coaches, players and others have so much admiration for ‘King James’. It proves his greatness as a player and also a human. LeBron not only won people’s hearts but also showed great quality on the court. Helping the Cavaliers win their first-ever Championship. He won his third NBA title and had great support from the likes of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love.  Handy also pointed out the winning mentality that LeBron James brought to the franchise with his return.

After cementing his legacy in Cleveland, King James joined the Lakers in order to take up a new challenge. The Lakers really wanted a revamp as they won the last NBA title in 2010. Hence the organisation acted swiftly to roped in LeBron and Anthony Davis to bring back the lost glory.

The duo reached their promised land last season when they won the NBA Championship in the bubble at Orlando. James also won the Finals MVP as he averaged 29.8 points, 11.8 rebounds, and had 8.5 assists per game. He also became the first player to win three titles with three different franchises.
