LeBron, Lakers Dominate Clippers in First Game Since Blockbuster Trade

In a dominant performance at Intuit Dome, LeBron James led the Los Angeles Lakers to a resounding 122-97 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night. The game marked the Lakers’ first since their seismic trade for Luka Dončić, who watched from the bench while recovering from a strained calf.

James nearly notched a triple-double with 26 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds, setting the tone for a Lakers squad that displayed relentless energy on both ends of the court. Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura added 20 points each, helping the Lakers close out their six-game road trip with five wins despite losing Anthony Davis to injury before the trade.

The Lakers’ victory was their first at the Clippers’ newly opened Intuit Dome, and it pushed them to 29-19, strengthening their grip on the fifth seed in the Western Conference. The Clippers, now 28-22, fell two games behind their city rivals.

With Dončić yet to make his debut in purple and gold, he sat alongside James, clapping and occasionally fist-pumping as the Lakers dismantled their crosstown foes. The two stars were seen chatting throughout the game, fueling excitement about their future partnership.

James Harden struggled for the Clippers, shooting just 2-of-12 for seven points, while Kawhi Leonard managed only 11 points before both stars sat out the fourth quarter. Norman Powell led the Clippers with 20 points, but their sluggish effort drew little enthusiasm from team owner Steve Ballmer, who watched from the stands.

The Lakers exploded out of the gates, dropping 45 points in the first quarter—their highest-scoring period of the season. Their ball movement was crisp, and they committed their first turnover only midway through the second quarter, a testament to their efficiency.

The Clippers, meanwhile, struggled to match the Lakers’ intensity. Their return from a four-game road trip seemed to sap their energy, resulting in a disjointed effort that saw them outclassed from the opening tip.

In a special moment for the James family, rookie Bronny James drilled his first NBA three-pointer while playing the final six minutes of the blowout. The Lakers bench erupted in celebration, marking another milestone in the young guard’s career.

For the Clippers, newly acquired veterans Patty Mills and Drew Eubanks made their debuts, logging the final seven minutes after arriving from Utah in a trade.

The Lakers will return home to host the Golden State Warriors on Thursday, while the Clippers will look to bounce back when they welcome the Indiana Pacers the same night.
