The LA Lakers were one of the biggest favorites to clinch their second title in a row before the start of the ongoing edition. However, injuries to their main players (Anthony Davis and LeBron James) derailed their hopes of retaining their title. Thus, the Lakers finished the regular season at seventh place in the Western Conference standings.
However, they were knocked out in the first round of the playoffs as they lost to the Phoenix Suns by 4-2. LeBron James didn’t receive the support from his team as Anthony Davis was once again injured in the postseason.
Meanwhile, LeBron James has already won four NBA championships in his glorious career. Former LA Lakers legend Magic Johnson feels that Akron Hammer desperately want to win fifth NBA ring and level with his and Kobe Bryant’s record of five championships.
Johnson believes James might not be able to match Michael Jordan’s record of six NBA titles as age will not be on his side.
Magic Johnson said at KJZ, “I think LeBron, he wants one more. He wants that fifth one. I got five. Kobe got five. So I know. He gotta be saying, ‘I gotta get five at least’ because I don’t think he’s gonna get the six like MJ, but that’s what he’s chasing. But he might get it but we just have to wait and see.”
Johnson added that James has two more seasons to win another title with the Purple and Gold. James is 36 years old but he is still at the top of his fitness. It wasn’t an ideal season for James as he was troubled by injury (ankle sprain which he suffered while playing against Atlanta Hawks).
However, James will aim to make a solid comeback in the next season and take the Lakers to glory.
