LeBron James is eager to make a mark on his 20th season in the NBA as he wants to remove last year’s stain of not even qualifying for the playoffs. However, his teammate Dwight Howard has shared some insights about the legend. Howard and LeBron guided the Los Angeles Lakers to the NBA Championship in 2020 and it was the first time both the number 1 picks played together.
However, Howard then swapped shirts to join Philadelphia 76ers for a season. But he eventually joined the Lakers again only to experience a pretty dreadful season. He understands that when someone like LeBron is down with disappointment their retaliation is always very dangerous, as they work even harder and come back stronger than ever.
In his two years with The King, he has learned a lot of things with him and in the Knuckleheads podcast he shared his thoughts about LeBron James and what fans can expect from the upcoming season. Howard shares how the four time MVP is always looking at statistics and going deep into it in understanding how he can maximize something or add something to his arsenal. He always wants to be more effective and that is something that sets him apart as per Dwight Howard.
“He’s always watching the stat sheets. It’s not like he’s looking to pad stats. He’s looking to figure out with numbers how can he be more effective. ‘How can this player be more effective? I gotta get this guy shots here. I gotta do this for this guy.’ He’s just really keeping account of what’s going on. It’s like how he do his business. He do it the same way,” Howard explained.
Howard continued sharing how everything that Lebron does is completely strategic and it appears as if he is playing chess. Right from the way he moves on court to the way he is positioning others, everything is done following a set strategy hoping that it will bring success, not only for him but for everyone.
“Everything he’s doing, he’s strategically doing. He’s playing chess. That’s something I got just watching him with how he moves. Everything he’s doing, he’s positioning himself and the people around him to make sure that everyone is successful in whatever field it may be,” Howard concluded.
LeBron James will be returning next season for the Lakers alongwith Anthony Davis who is back from injury and Russell Westbrook who will continue with the Lakers despite many rumours of him moving away. However Dwight Howard may not join them as he is an unrestricted free agent.
