Kevin Durant agrees to stay with Brooklyn Nets

After a lot of hullabaloo, Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant has decided to stay with the franchise for the upcoming season. Durant had asked for a trade on June 30 and also reiterated the same desire to team’s governor Joe Tsai to leave the team when they met earlier in the month in London.

In fact, Durant had signed a $198 million extension of four years in the last season. The new contract will begin in the forthcoming season.

“[Coach] Steve Nash and I, together with [governors] Joe Tsai and Clara Wu Tsai, met with Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman in Los Angeles yesterday,” Nets general manager Sean Marks said in a statement.

“We have agreed to move forward with our partnTitle Page Separator Site title ership. We are focusing on basketball, with one collective goal in mind: build a lasting franchise to bring a championship to Brooklyn.”

On the other hand, there was a lot of confusion regarding the future of Kyrie Irving as well but he will also stay with Brooklyn Nets. Irving created a list of teams he would have liked the Nets to consider working with on a sign-and-trade deal but nothing was finalized.

Irving had decided to stay unvaccinated against Covid-19 and could only play 29 matches in the last season because he could not play in New York.

Meanwhile, Brooklyn Nets were knocked out from the first round in the playoff in the previous season and Irving and Durant will aim to collectively turn the tables. In fact, both Irving and Durant signed up with the Nets in 2019 but interestingly they played only 44 matches together.

On the other hand, Durant averaged 29.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 6.4 assists in the previous season of the NBA but he played only 55 matches as he was recovering from an MCL injury.
